Passport Forging in the Service of the Islamic Republic

Behind the Headlines

About two weeks ago an Iranian national, Seyed Ramin Miraziz Paknejad, was arrested in Kuala Lumpur on suspicion of forging passports and visas for Tehran-backed terrorism and human trafficking organizations. Paknejad’s forgery syndicate operated for about five years in Thailand and sold more than 3,000 counterfeit travelling documents (making him a rich man, with estimated profits of approximately $3 million).

On the face of it, just another criminal opportunist. But no, take a closer look: turns out that Paknejad was part of Iran’s well-documented abuse of diplomatic privileges and instruments for very non-diplomatic activities.

In fact, Paknejad has been implicated in forging passports for the bombers in the botched Iranian terrorist attempt in Thailand back in February 2012, which led to the arrest of five Iranian nationals – including Paknejad himself, who managed to subsequently flee to Malaysia. There he will now be charged for entering the country on a forged Turkish passport, but will probably be extradited back to Thailand to face charges for his involvement in the terrorist plot.

Links Between Diplomacy, Terrorism and the Regime

From the initial evidence, it seems that Paknejad’s involvement with human trafficking was not directly related to the Iranian regime, but his work for Iranian terrorism definitely was. Tehran is known for this familiar mixing of diplomacy, crime and terrorism – as demonstrated  by its 2011 attempt to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the US. Indeed, the Bangkok terrorist incident was one of three other such attempts during the same period – in India, Georgia and Kenya – with the elite IRGC-Qods forces the common denominator. The Paknejad money trail is certainly bad news for the regime’s cover-up efforts.

Suspicions of the involvement of Iranian diplomacy in subversion activities surface regularly.  So while Iran’s diplomats in Thailand have yet to be directly implicated, the trail of evidence could very well lead to the doors of its Bangkok embassy in the near future. Stay tuned.

Update August 22nd: Thai court sentences Iranian terrorist, Saeid Moradi. to  life in prison for the attempted murder of Israeli diplomats. Hi accomplice, Mohammad Khazaei, was sentenced to 15 year in prison.

  1. This article is formulated to make the Iranian government is sponsoring terrorism is a smear campaign ……get involve in real politics morons.

    • smear campaign? i think not.
is iran connected with global terrorism? most definitely – be it directly orthrough proxy organizations such as Hezbollah?
are iranian diplomats involved in this acts? yes – if you read into how the IRGC/Qods is involved within the diplomatic circles…read the posts and open your mind.

      • Is the US instigating turmoil in the Middle East – Yes! This article is nothing more than a crass smear campaign against the Republic of Iran.

      • Iran will soon revert to be called Persia. The mullahs are on the run for their lives….The clash between LOGIC and a mad man’s incoherent and vile way of life is about to finally clash. Stupid islam is going …slowly …but soon with a big bang. Evil idiots always shout loudest as they perish for good.

      • “global” terrorism

To even call it “global” terrorism shows the paranoia from which these dramatic and flamboyant comments come.

Iran is not sponsoring any terrorist activities ANYWHERE. There is not a single terrorist activity that is (or has recently been) sponsored by Iran.

Only the US and it;s allies continue to do so, in the Middle East and everywhere else.

      • not a single terrorist activity sponsored by Iran?
are you serious? wikipedia iran + terror or simply quds + iran.
blaming the US/allies for spreading this “paranoia” is simply paranoid in itself.

  2. if you go bangkok banglampoo kahosan road is full of iranian trafficking with people and fake passport specially in to japan everybody know since the end of the 80s but nobody says anything ,,, mmmmm maybe that why there so many israeli too in kaosan road mmmmmm

    • hi marcos,
trying to figure out the whole “mmmmmmmmmm” israeli kaosan road thing…do you think that the israelis are involved in trafficking fake iranian passports?
sounds very far fetched to me.

      • stupid idiots always trying to implicate israelis – have you ever even been to khao san road? the only israelis there are post army 20 something hippie travelers so stoned on weed they can barely complete a sentence. they come to thailand to party and escape the craziness of the middle east. the last thing they’d want to do is complicate their holidays with amateurish 007 antics

      • But Mellissa dear, there are muslims in Bankok. Why would you wanna go there? it’s probably that “face your fear” therapy.

      • i’m afriad i don’t understand…”face you fear” therapy? must be a language problem.

Muslims were, are and never will be the issue as far as i am concerned. it never was a question of religion…it’s a question of lines that are being crossed.

please don’t take it personally, but if you can not add anything legitimate to this discussion, i will not approve your comments in the future.

  3. We will witness the ENDSMASH of islam. I’m cool with the endsmash. islam started with a bang and will go only with a few big bangs. There is no other way……it seems.

  4. To what end did you include a picture of an actual Iranian passport page with the face and name of an unrelated person easily readable to everyone?

Do you realize publishing individuals’ personal details without a court or law enforcement order is a crime in most jurisdictions?

Do you mind telling your readers publicly which legal jurisdiction you fall under and why you feel immune to prosecution?

    • hi nikto,
thank you for your concern for the privacy of others.
the visual is of Masoud Sedaghatzadeh, who was arrested in Kuala Lumpur for his suspected involvement in bombing plots in thailand – he is therefore very much connected to this post.
The image is available for all to see in google images – just search “iran, terror, thailand”.

  6. They were involved in the bombing of the Jewish center in argentine in the 90’s and that is a fact documented by the police in that country following a Six years investigation.
in fact one of their diplomats is wanted by Interpol in connection to the bombing and they have proof that member of the embassy took part in the bombing

  7. If I had the power, I would direct all non-government persons to evacuate all the cities and government facilities in Iran. This is our gift to them. Then with Tactical Nuclear Weapons, target just the cities and government facilities. Two missiles each sight. “God is Great”

  8. During the 1980’s P.C. Yvonne Fletcher was shot dead bye an Iranian Diplomat. The shot was fired from inside the Iranian Embassy London, killing the Police officer as she stood on duty in the street outside. The weapon used was then taken out of the UK inside a diplomatic bag, and the person responsible left the UK using Diplomatic Immunity to evade the law. Now tell me that Iranian diplomats are Honest and trustworthey

  9. Winston Churchill 1899.

“Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world.”

This is amazing. Even more amazing is that this hasn’t been published long before now.

    CHURCHILL ON ISLAM

Unbelievable, but the speech below was written in 1899… (check Wikipedia – The River War).

The attached short speech from Winston Churchill, was delivered by him in 1899 when he was a young soldier and journalist. It probably sets out the current views of many, but expresses in the wonderful Churchillian turn of phrase and use of the English language, of which he was a past master. Sir Winston Churchill was, without doubt, one of the greatest men of the late 19th and 20th centuries.

He was a brave young soldier, a brilliant journalist, an extraordinary politician and statesman, a great war leader and British Prime Minister, to whom the Western world must be forever in his debt. He was a prophet in his own time. He died on 24th January 1965, at the grand old age of 90 and, after a lifetime of service to his country, was accorded a State funeral.

    HERE IS THE SPEECH:

“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries, improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.

A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement, the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome …”

Sir Winston Churchill; (Source: The River War, first edition, Vol II, pages 248-250 London).

    Churchill saw it coming……

      • Dear MMellissa78…couldn’t agree with you more on that…(ref. “old speeches in old files…”). Sir W. Churchill did have his moments of great insightfulness, but he did have his critics as well. He was not in the least infallible, but like most mortals was a prisoner of his times and scimcanstanses. Forgive my spelling, but a stroke has left me unable to spell, and I always hated “spell check”!
While not really interested in “inserting” myself, into this fascinating discussion…my interest is really in you…mmellissa78. I am curious- is the “78” a birth year? even more intreaging, maybe I know you…? But, before you start worrying, some of your posts/replys suggest a more intelligent person than I suspected. I mean no offence, unlike some of your more virulent and intemperate correspondents.
        Regards
        Hadrian

      • Hi Adrian,
78 is my dirth year :).
no offence taken – i’m glad you like my posts.
i am not impartial but i do abhor narrow-minded fundamentalists/racists of any kind.

  10. “… as demonstrated by its 2011 attempt to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the US.”

What attempt would that be? The hiring of the Mexican cartel by a used car salesmen, after they paid him with a ‘wire transfer’??

You need to make up your mind, since either Iran is a huge threat to humanity, or they’re just a bunch of bungling amateurs that pose no risk to anyone.

    • they are both.
iran is behind numerous terrorist activities and fortunately for their intended victims, their track record is not that good.
and yes, if they play their nuclear armament card, they will threaten all humanity including you.

  12. peace…peace to all brothers and sisters of the world…we are all one…one planet of people…many differences but one home…everyone born is a visitor for a short while to live on this world…live it well…and look after the planet for all the future generations to come…live together…have differences but live together…tolerence respect and an awe of this brilliant rock in space…your home…your world…our mother Earth…enjoy and contribute to its keeping…

    • I’m 92. You have put my thoughts into words. I am a child of Abraham. Heavenly blessings to all. from Kevin in Sydney.

  13. So the US doesn’t forge passports, carry out International kidnapping, support terrorists arm rebels or bring down foreign governments which disagree with US overseas policies. The US is the problem why terrorist exist in this world, if it pull it’s rebel troops back to the US borders and stopped interfering in other countries then the World would be a peaceful place.

    • “the US is the problem why terrorists exist in this world”.
i know you want to believe that but i am afraid it sounds too far fetched to me.
the problem here is not one country or another – it is the abuse of the rules of the game – no terrorism and no abuse of diplomatic conventions. because once it becomes ok for one side, everybody will do it.

      • Mellissa,
Who do you think funded the PIRA during the height of the NI Problems….
        Yes that’s right THE USofA……
and all through a so called charity, to end the Oppression of the Ruling British….
And yes it’s all in the Public domain, then the Terrible tradagy of 9/11 (11th Sept) happened and the USofA suddenly wanted to end terrorism around the world, But they kept on funding the IRA…..

        Double standards.

      • @Michael,
The USA has a large population of people of Irish descent and many of these people probably supported the PIRA monetarily but it was not US policy. Why is it then that because some free people made the conscious and morally reprehensible decision to provide support to a known terrorist organization that the Government gets the blame instead of the perpetrators themselves?

But like mmellissa78 says, the US is at fault for everything! If the US went away everything would just be all hippy-dippy and lovey-dovey all over the world. What an idiot you are Michael!

    • Tell that to the all the people killed on both sides in Northern Ireland over the last thirty years or so because of religious differences or the tribal genocide going on in Africa to this day and on and on, none of which the US had or has anything to do with. The world a peaceful place? Are you really that naive? No wonder the world is so screwed up…you people have no real clue what is going on around you or you wouldn’t make ignorant comments like that.

  15. In the forty-odd years since the Iranian Revolution and the overthrow of the Shah, hundreds of thousands of innocent Iranians have been murdered in Iran by the ruling fanatical Shia clerical regime and hundreds more have been assassinated by adherents or employees of that regime in various countries all around the world. The present rulers of Iran can never be trusted by any other government or any international organisation, not even by Iranians or fellow Shia religionists.
The stated purpose of this regime is the total destruction of Israel, the United States and their European allies and the reduction to subservience of the adherents of all Sunni and other Muslim sects to the Shia rulers of Iran. To achieve that purpose this insane regime is prepared to embark on a total war of nuclear and biological destruction that could very easily kill most living things on the planet.

    • wow! you do live up to your name “doomsayer”.
i’m afraid i don’t buy into all of it.
i am sure that there are people in Iran who want out of this crazy rat-race that their leaders put them in.
we just have to find a way to reach out and empower them.

  16. What about Mossad using 17 forged passports most supposedly UK passports to carry out the assassination of someone they did not like in Abu Dhabi about 3 years ago? Theya re all at it!

    • Edmund – i tend to agree with you.
there is something wrong about abusing diplomatic rules by any (!) country.
the main question is if the diplomatic corps is in collusion with the secret services…

Abolish all religion its all crap! I am an ATHEIST.

  19. Let’s not forget that Israel actually does have a real agency whose main job is to produce fake passports – that’s all they do. Israel is guilty of using fake passports to commit acts of terrorism and murder all around the world.

  20. Wow someone else has seen the light! Religion is just someone elses interpretation of something that can’t be proven, in order to have power over others. I don’t care what religion a person is or isn’t. Live and let live, but don’t try to stuff your beliefs down my throat. It’s all POWER POWER POWER, and talking of Islam, anyone ever see a suicide bomber cleric? If a heavenly reward is the result, how come everyone isn’t doing it? Maybe some just don’t believe.

  21. MMelissa78, Mike, Zoe, Edmund Nankivell, Barry, kennailedit and all of you:

Oh my fellow citizen of this beautiful world, we have lost our way, morality and the proper guidance.

    Divide and rule policies
    This nonsense political parties
    Blind leaders that leads us
We are none different then other (we all are same)
We are leaded by the two kind of leaders
    1) So call religious or
    2) Political leaders
But when both are blinds and they leads us and in result a blind man leading many blinds and we are one of these (many blinds)
The truth is, This material existence can’t comfort us nor unit us unless our aim and destination is same. Let see us working together going back to our original home or go back to the God Head.
    Lets follow:
The Path of Krishna’s Devotion because he is the God of all Gods
    The color festival of UTAH
    Songs of George Harrison
    Kritana of Harinaam

    Chant and be Happy
And lets work together and join us to serve of most needy of this fortunate world coz at the end we would have nothing but Karma. Lets free ourselves from this material bondage’s.

    Thank you

  22. Go listen to ‘Two Tribes’ by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. It may be that the solution should be dealt with in the way the mockery song/video reflects

  23. Who actually cares? Most people find these terrorists so tiring to read about or listen to. They always sound so utterly idiotic and beyond human bounds that one just ends up feeling sorry for the mothers who spent nine months carrying such in their bellies and ended up getting such a poor product at the end of it all. Just seems there is a much higher proportion of terrorists in certain countries including Israel, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Afghanistan, Saudi, etc, the people all belonging to one or two races.
